Invasive
Cardiovascular Technology
professionals is a myriad of
many health care disciplines,
and at the distinct level of the
Cardiac Catheterization
Laboratory (CCL), these
disciplines are represented by
RCISs, RNs, LPNs, RTs, and in
some cases EMTs, Paramedics and
RRTs. SICP supports the model of
a cross-trained CCL. It is
SICP’s thought that the RCIS
is the gold standard in patient
care. As stated in SICP’s
published Scope of Practice,
“all invasive cardiovascular
professionals, with or without
formal cardiovascular academic
training, should demonstrate
knowledge and competence through
education and certification in
advanced cardiac life support (ACLS/ECC)
and the achievement of the
invasive cardiovascular
credential, Registered
Cardiovascular Invasive
Specialist (RCIS)".
