Outgoing President’s Message 2007

Lynne Jones RN, RCIS, FSICP

First and foremost I must say it has been a privilege to represent you as the President of  the SICP.  It is with mixed feelings that I write my last message to you.  I am a little sad that my two years have gone by so fast, but very excited about the impact and energy that Todd Chitwood brings to the position.

The last two years have been a whirlwind of activity and growth for our Society.  The progress we have made is incredible.  Collaboration with Industry has been a big focus.  We have built relationships that will continue to support our mission and goals.

The chapter initiative will continue to build a strong foundation for our profession.  As more chapters form, more people will get involved and influence how the invasive cardiovascular professional will practice.

Dear Senators Kennedy and Enzi:

The society of Invasive Cardiovascular Professionals (SICP) represents cardiovascular technologists and registered cardiovascular invasive specialist who provide care to patients undergoing cardiovascular diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as coronary stent implants, which require x-ray guided fluoroscopic imagining.  The SICP is a member of the Alliance for Quality medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy and we strongly support the CARE bill (S.1042).    Both as an individual professional society and collectively as an alliance, we encourage you to continue supporting the CARE legislation.

ABOUT US

Founded in 1993 The Society of Invasive Cardiovascular Professionals (SICP) was formed with encouragement from The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) who recognized the need for a professional society to create and maintain professional standards, promote continuing education, and to act as an advocate for the non-physician members of the invasive cardiovascular care team.

Catheterization and electrophysiology laboratories are staffed by allied health professionals from various disciplines.  This diversity of disciplines and highly skilled professionals complements and strengthens the ability to provide a high standard of patient care.   The SICP is an inclusive professional group, representing members of all these various disciplines.

The SICP recognized and endorses the Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) credential, offered by Cardiovascular Credentialing International, as the inclusive credential for invasive cardiovascular allied health professionals.  The SICP believes that the RCIS examination represents the minimum knowledge base necessary for the allied health professional to effectively function in invasive cardiovascular laboratories.  The SICP offers continuing education in the form of RCIS Review Courses to prepare invasive cardiovascular professionals to take the registry exam.  The SICP recommends all cardiovascular technologist practice under the RCIS Code of Ethics
